Meeting 10th August: big data and Cyber Security

Our next Mega Data Cluster meeting is on Monday 10th August and will focus on security aspects of big data.

Craig Valli, Director of the ECU Security Research Institute & ACSRI will present the role of big data in The Internet of Threats.

We increasingly use and rely on electronic communications and data transfer and storage. Simultaneously there is proliferation of means to access electronic networks creating an attractive proposition for crime and misuse. As a result we are seeing a rapid increase in the volume and sophistication of cyber attacks against a variety of targets.

The Australian Cyber Security Research Institute (ACSRI) will support the Australian Government’s focus on cyber security by bringing together a collaborative network of researchers, universities, government and industry partners nationwide. Representing Australia’s first coordinated strategic research and education effort between national cyber security agencies, industry and researchers, ACSRI will deliver a nation-wide approach to respond to cyber threats.

Adam, a representative of ASIO, will present on Cyber-hacking risks

ASIO’s main role is to gather information and produce intelligence that will enable it to warn the government about activities or situations that might endanger Australia’s national security. The rapid growth of an economy and a society connected by the combined forces of modern telecommunications and the Internet Protocol that now constitute the Cyber World has a significant impact on considerations of Australia’s national security, including those elements of national security within ASIO’s remit.
